By 2035, in the neon-drenched arteries of a Martian crater-city, a legend is whispered through the static of interplanetary comms: The Red Dust Cantina.
Carved from the bedrock and shielded from the corrosive dust storms, it's more than a bar—it's the last free haven for the system's outcasts. Gene-spliced miners, rogue androids hiding from decommissioning squads, and data-brokers with ghosts in their neuro-jacks trade stories over synth-whiskey.
Flickering holographic cats chase phantom strings through the smoky haze, a whimsical distraction from the cybernetic limbs and weathered faces of patrons who've seen too many stars die.
It's here, amidst the clinking of glasses and the hum of overworked life-support, that I chronicle the gritty, hopeful noir of the Red Frontier. I write stories about the beautiful, broken people fighting for a sliver of dawn on a world that's all rust and shadows, proving that even at the edge of the void, humanity—in all its forms—endures.
My life has been a bit of a chaotic 'Choose Your Own Adventure' story. I was born in the small town of Simcoe, Ontario, grew up in Abbotsford, BC (where the cows are the true locals), and found my calling early on in the glowing portal of a computer screen. I moved to Vancouver when I was 16.
After finishing my business degree at UBC, I co-founded Exile Visual Effects, a studio where we worked on over 30 films and even produced three of our own.
From there, the adventure took some stranger turns: owning a restaurant on Denman Street during the peak of the COVID pandemic (surviving the wrath of hangry Vancouverites was the real challenge) and managing a casino in Squamish for two years (spoiler: the house really does always win).
So, how does all that lead to writing sci-fi? After a resume like that, making up stories about rogue AI and alien artifacts feels surprisingly normal.
These days, when I'm not crafting tales of intergalactic mayhem, I'm running Bongo Hospitality with my amazing partner, Chef Bongo (he does all the actual cooking, thankfully).
My stories are inspired by that winding road—exploring the very real, often absurd, and exciting possibilities of a future driven by technology.
When I’m not writing, you can find me geeking out over the latest gadgets, brainstorming my next business venture (cat cafe on Mars, anyone?), or looking for my next adventure.
Oh, and one last thing: I'm a Scorpio who doesn't believe in horoscopes but I figured you should know so you can judge me how you see fit. ✌️
